19.02.2014 | FiFab hosts Open Day
FiFab opened its doors for the day to show off some newly installed technology helping it lead the way nationally. Provost of Fife Jim Leishman and Depute Leader of Fife Council Councillor Lesley Laird, who is also executive member for Business, Enterprise, Economy & Planning, were among invited guests to attend the recent event.
The company has recently installed its first Safan Darley technology in the shape of four Electronic Press Brakes.
Councillor Lesley Laird said: “The open day gave an excellent opportunity to visit and learn more about the benefits this new technology will bring".
As well as an expected increase in productivity of 30 %, FiFab expect to save 50% in energy consumption too.
“The company is the first in Scotland to install this technology and it’s great to hear a Fife company is leading the way!
“As well as investing in new technology, FiFab also recognise it’s important to invest in their workforce. Their involvement in the council’s Fife Youth Job Contract is helping to educate and skill local young people about careers in engineering and they’ve also supported a number of modern apprenticeships.“By investing in the skills of the workforce for the future, companies like FiFab are helping the council work towards making Fife the best place to do business.”
03.03.2014 | New State of the art measuring equipment
Students at Fife College are benefitting from a new partnership with local company Fife Fabrication which is giving both students and employees access to state-of-the art equipment and specialised training. The College’s Engineering department has recently loaned its CMM machine to Fife Fabrications to enable greater use of the machine within a realistic manufacturing environment.
A CMM (coordinate measuring machine) is used in the engineering industry to measure the physical geometrical characteristics of an object.
Ann Brown, Head of Department for Engineering Technology said: “The loan makes perfect business sense as our students receive the training they require in College but then benefit from using our CMM machine in the workplace in a real industry setting. This is a win-win situation for both the College and Fife Fabrications.”
Students will have the opportunity to take part in training on the machinery and understand the importance of using this technology in the workplace. This will be fantastic on-site training for the students, giving them a vital insight into the workplace setting.
John Penman, Sales and Marketing Director at Fife Fabrication said: “We are delighted to have received the new machinery from the College. The machine will help to enhance our operations but will also allow the partnership between ourselves and the College to grow through students’ site visits and training.”
